Concours Owners' Group - Southeastern Region

Leadership Team

Vic Salisbury , Area Director

I currently live in Sarasota , FL with my wife, Caren; and two daughters, Robyn and Cassie. Having been a member of COG since 1999 (#3673) I always have been impressed with the camaraderie and hospitality. I look forward to working with our SE members, and all of COG, who make this group as great as it is. Ride Safe!

Reid Yeargan, South Georgia AAD

After riding for about 20 yrs, I took a five year hiatus. Never could shake the longing to ride and I bought my 98 Concours last April and immediately joined the COG. I had already been looking at the COG website and was extremely impressed with the cooperation and camaraderie that I saw there. That is what I hope to bring to the SECOG. I love riding and I love getting together with people who also share this great passion. I look forward to meeting as many fellow COGers as possible. Let's head down the road!

Jack Ferguson, North Georgia AAD

Jack is a relative newcomer to COG as he returned to riding after an 18 year hiatus last year with the acquisition of an 86 Concours from his brother in Texas . He lives with his wife and two children in the Atlanta area and has been the house-husband for the past four years. Jack is originally from Texas , but has been a resident of Georgia since 1980. He recently completed his first Saddlesore 1000 ride and joined with some folks from the Motorcycle Touring Forum for a couple of rides-to-eat. Jack started riding in Japan in 1969 and has owned several bikes through the years. He's looking forward to the Winding Rivers and Roads Rally as well as planning other rides for the remainder of the year. Any help from other members with suggestions for rides would be appreciated.

Steve Jenkins, Western North Carolina AAD

I grew up in western North Carolina and met Sandy, my wife now for over 28 years, at NC State University. After raising two children, we now have the benefit of time to ride some of the best motorcycle roads in the southeast, IMHO. Having just built a new home, owner of one business for over 11 years and recently started another one, my bike allows me to “get away”. Being a COG member since 2002 and living in Old Fort, North Carolina, I enjoy the friendships with other COG members while taking advantage of the great motorcycle roads and scenery all around me. When I was asked to take the AAD position, I saw a great opportunity to show other COG members what western North Carolina has to offer. From The Tail of the Dragon to the Blue Ridge Parkway, I look forward to the many ride event possibilities.

Ray Olszewski, Central North Carolina AAD

I started riding and racing dirt bikes around 40 years ago in southeastern PA. My first street bike was a '71 Honda CL350 "Scrambler" which I rode from Philadelphia PA to Denver CO in 1973 with a round trip cost of about $20 for gas! Several bikes and many years later, I replaced my worn out 81 Honda CB900 with a 2000 Concours. I immediately joined COG and found out that riding is only part of the experience of Concours ownership. I've been in the Charlotte area since 1990 and still find new roads to explore on every outing. I'd like to get some regular rides, dinners and RTE's going in this area again, and share some of these great back-road rides with others in the area. I look forward to serving our members in the Charlotte and Central Carolina's area.

Jack McVickers, Southern Alabama AAD

I live in Elberta, Alabama and work in Gulf Shores, Alabama on the Gulf coast. I have been riding motorcycles since I was 13 years old , and went to the American Motorcycle Institute when I graduated high school. I then worked in a motorcycle shop for several years before going into law enforcement. I now work for the Gulf Shores Police Department and have been there for 24 years. I am the Lieutenant over the Patrol Division and Dispatch. I have been riding a concours for 11 years and a member of the concours owners group for several years.

Gary Norton , South Carolina AAD

Gary resides in Travelers Rest (Greenville area) SC, and is a long-time COG member. He has attended many COG events throughout the USA. He brings enthusiasm to his area and looks forward to meeting Concours owners in South Carolina. Having owned 2 Concours, he is knowlegible in all things Concours. Any aspiring Ironbutt members are also encouraged to contact Gary for information on long distance riding.

Paul Heydemann, South Florida AAD

Since 2001 I've been happily scooting ~25k miles per year on my Conc. But it's the fine folks of COG that has been the real benefit for me. I look forward to serving as AAD for S Floriduh. My other interests include bicycling, boating, hiking, fitness, travel, playing bass, & general hedonism. Seeya down the road...enjoy the ride! Paulie, Mijami Floriduh, '01 Concours, COG #4561

Bruce Barge, North Florida AAD (Ocala)

Born in Atlanta, Georgia (GO DAWGS!) I've been a life long resident of the sunshine state currently residing in the granddaddy oak tree shrouded horse county of Ocala. Bikes I have owned and pretty much ridden into the ground include a '74 Kawi Mach III 500, '82 Suzuki 1100 GL, '89 Suzuki Katana 750 and my current ride, the "Barfrocket", a '98 Concours set up mainly for Long Distance Riding. I purchased my '98 in '99 with 1200 miles on it and over the years with much assistance from our past AD Larry Buck, with 115,000 miles now showing on her clock she's finally just right. I dabble in digital photography and some of you may have read my monthly columns in an (once) on-line (but now off-line) motorcycle E-zine called "Rollin' Mag". I'm also a member of the Iron Butt Association and the infamous Chatty Morons. After enjoying my membership in COG for the past 6 years, I felt it was time for me to try and give back some small portion of what I have received. I look forward to being your COG contact point here in North Florida.

David Sturgis, North Florida AAD (Jacksonville)

David Sturgis has been riding motorcycles since 1974. He enjoyed riding so much that he made a career of it, working as a Suzuki and Honda mechanic for 5 years. In the 1980’s David went back to college and began working in the IT industry. He and wife Patty were blessed with twin girls, so David took a few years off from riding until the twins were grown. He has been riding again since 2002 and has already had seven motorcycles! He has kept the 1997 Concours the longest and also put the most miles on it, including a trip to the 2007 National in West Virginia. Some of his favorite bikes include a 1977 Yamaha RD400, 1979 GS1000 and a 1980 KZ1000 LTD. David lives in Jacksonville with his family and works as a Project Manager in the financial industry. David also continues to turn a wrench often on project bikes.

Calvin Underwood, Newsletter Editor

Calvin lives in Asheville, N.C. with his wife, Linda (shown relaxing after the 2003 National "Mountain Do" in Asheville, NC). Calvin has been a member of COG since 1994 (#1751); served as SEAD 2002-2003; rallymeister for the 2003 National 'Mountain Do' in Asheville; and continues as SECOG News editor. In addition to motorcycling, Calvin enjoys bicycling, boating, fishing, hiking and doing volunteer work in his community. Although in 2/07 Calvin traded his '94 Concours for an '05 Honda ST1300, he continues to be an active COGer. As former SEAD, Larry Buck, says "you join for the bike, you stay for the people". Calvin invites COG members to submit COG ride announcements and reports (250-400 words range, in text or Word) and pictures (high resolution digital or scanned at 300 dpi or greater) for the SECOG Newsletter and/or Concourier. Send via e-mail to'secog@charter.net' or snail-mail to 7 Munn Dr., Asheville, N.C. 28805. Newsletters will be snail-mailed to non-e-mail members and posted at the SECOG Website for internet connected members. Calvin sends a big "thank you" for all those contributors who share with all the other SECOGers via the newsletter and website. "Good communication is the heart of successful organizations".

David Hicks, Webmaster

I live in Marietta, GA, and have been involved with COG since August 2001. Though I don't have a Connie anymore, I maintain a lot of friends in the group and still love to ride with them. I took on the task of Web Master in the summer of 2003 and have been enjoying contributing something back to the group. By day, I am a software engineer. When I'm not busy working I can be found participating in one of my many hobbies - motorcycling being one of the primary ones. Ride safe!
