Dyno Runs

Gontran Durocher's 1999 Concours Dyno Chart

The graph is pretty self explanatory. The "red" trace is a stock '99 Connie at about 7000 miles, all normal maintenance and adjustments, no mods. On a hot, (94 deg F), low altitude Florida day, she made about 86hp.The same bike, about 2000 miles later (and no maintenance since :) ), on a considerably cooler day (75 deg), with the original (clean) filter, she put out about 92 hp.

Immediately afterward, I swapped a (clean, not too freshly oiled) K&N air filter, and for the third run gained about 1 hp.

Yep.

Possible conclusions?

A) Connie already comes with a very good filter.

B) Don't bother with the expense of a K&N unless you plan on doing more.I suspect that to fully take advantage of it you must combine it with a freer flowing exhaust, and possibly (although not necessarily) some carb work.

C) The best hp boost comes from riding only on cool days!

Intriguing future experiments?

A) If someone will send me their other-than-stock exhausts and pay for shipping both ways, I'll do the footwork and pay for the additional comparative dyno run...
