March

The Big Bend Ride the Twisties

March 10, 11, 12

Hotel:
Antelope Lodge
2310 West Hwy 90
Alpine, TX 79830
(432) 837-2451 or 800-880-8106

Ok, I know it's really early, but decided to do this thing. Below is the information for now. We'll do reservations later. Just wanted to make it official....
If you plan to attend, go ahead and let me know. If many decide to go, I'll see that we need more lodging and try to arrange something.

I've made some preliminary choices on the "Big Bend Ride".
Nothing is cast in stone. Just trying to send out the rough plans and see what everyone thinks.

Location: I choose to move the ride back to the same Motel in Alpine this year. Alpine is the crossing point of all the ride routes. Gives everyone easier days and more choices. Alpine is in easy riding distance from Big Bend National Park, Marfa, Fort Davis State Park, and the McDonald Observatory...
Another benefit is; By staying in Alpine, everyone will have a much shorter ride home on Sunday.

Dates: Fri March 10 thru Sunday March 12.
Friday arrival is "highly" recommended as there are ""lots"" of miles to ride, sights to see, and twisties to enjoy....

Lodging: I contacted the Antelope Lodge and picked it as the motel where we'll base the ride. They will be contacting me soon with rates and number of available rooms.
The Antelope Lodge is definitely a COG type of place,, in other words,, inexpensive, clean, and friendly...
The Antelope is an older motel but it's clean and neat, and the owners were "great" to us last year.
It has a courtyard where we can gather to swap stories, with a pit for cooking Jalopenias.

By the way, I'll supply the fixins for Jalopenia Poppers.
(Help wanted: I'll need a bit of help with the preparations).

My plan if necessary, is to secure another motel.
I can arrange one in Alpine, or one near Big Bend.

Two years ago we stayed at a motel near the Park entrance. I believe it was called the Ranch Motel. The motel was similar to the Antelope. Older but clean. It met the COG requirements, but it made for a longer ride home on Sunday. That was why we moved the base motel back to Alpine...
If anyone is interested, I can set up that motel for those that want to be near the park.

Many other motels are available for those that want something else.

Here is the partial list of Motels.

NOTE: March is Spring Break Time. Once the final decision is made, Immediately make your reservations.

Have to go for now.
Let me know what you think.

Ride safe, Ted

April

Bluebonnet Rally

April 7, 8, 9

This year we are going to go back to the River Inn Resort.

I have blocked 20 rooms.  You will need to call and make your own reservation, just tell them that you are with the Concours Owners Group.  They now charge a different rate for the 1 bedroom units.  I got a rate of $65 for a Studio, and $85 for the 1 bedroom units.  They don't have 20 Studio's available, so be sure to make your reservation early if you want the cheaper room rate.  The rooms will be held until March 23.

If you haven't been here before, it is a real nice place.  It has one of the best patio areas around.  You can fish and swim if you want to.  Here is a link to my write-up of 2005's Wildflower Ride

More details will be following shortly.
