Monthly Second Saturday Rides...

Dallas/Ft worth area Coggers and anyone else. We will meet on the 2nd Saturday each month for a lunch ride, and leave around 9:00. Rides will usually be 200-350 miles total, and we'll go to a different destination each month. You can contact Kevin Baker to find out the details on the upcoming ride, or to suggest one, or call 469-576-2948. Anyone that wants to ride with us can find details on upcoming rides here:                             Texas Curve Assessment Team Website
If there is a large turnout, we may sometimes split into smaller groups. Also, we try to share the burden of organizing/planning the rides, so if you have an idea, let us know! There will be people with different riding styles, and NO PRESSURE to ride either faster or slower than you are comfortable with.

Monthly Second Sunday Breakfast in Luella, TX.

CANCELLED

The Second Sunday Breakfast Ride to Luella is no longer. Organizer Bo Griffin says he never had more than a couple of Concours riders show up, and he has since left the fold for a Big Mean GS Machine, aka BMW Adventure type thing. Bo now rides with a more BMW oriented group, and has moved the breakfast ride to the third Sunday of each month, and to Whitewright, Texas.  Here's a link to his current breakfast ride

Bo Griffin's Whitewright Breakfast

We're sure he won't mind if a Concours rider or two shows up every now and then, in case you'd ever like to check it out.

That leaves the Second Sunday in the DFW area wide open, y'all! How about someone starting a new traditon?

Be sure to send in details of any rides you want posted here

2008 (updated!)

March

Big Bend Ride

Fri March 14th thru Sunday March 16th

Ted Adcock has made arrangements for "Alpine, Ride the Big Bend Twisties".

Location: I choose to move the ride back to Alpine this year. Alpine is the crossing point of all the main ride routes in the area. Alpine is in easy riding distance from
Big Bend National Park, Marfa, Fort Davis
State Park
, and the McDonald Observatory...

Dates: Fri March 14th thru Sunday March 16th

Friday arrival is recommended as there are ""lots"" of miles to ride, sights to see, and twisties to enjoy....(For those that have the time, a Thursday arrival is even better). Side note: For those that are coming thru Del Rio, some of us are meeting there Thursday morning for breakfast, and an (unofficial),, liesurely ride to Alpine. (If you get to Del Rio on Wednesday, come out to Halfcow Ranch and visit).

Lodging: I contacted the "Antelope Lodge" and asked for "all" of their rooms. (The Antelope is where we stayed last 3 years).  As of now they have approx 20 rooms available for us. Of those rooms, 4+ are already reserved! Room rates vary between $40 and $90 depending on size of the cabin and number of people. They allowed me to book the entire Motel ONLY if we agree to pay some fee if we cancel at the last minute.

SPECIAL NOTE: Because of Spring Break,, March is the Alpine Area's prime period. I *only* have the rooms held for us until *January 31st*. After that date the Motels will allow others to book the rooms..
So,, if you plan to go.. *BOOK YOUR ROOM NOW*!!!!!!!

Antelope Lodge
2310 West Hwy 90
Alpine, TX 79830
(432) 837-2451 or 800-880-8106

When you call the Motel, mention my name, and the C.O.G. group.

I also arranged 6 rooms at the La Loma Motel. The La Loma is the nearest Motel to the Antelope Lodge. It is much newer than the Antelope and meets the requirements of the COGdom. Clean, Neat, and Cheap. The owner is Jerry gave us a rate of $55 a night (including Taxes) for single or Double Rooms. Phone numbers for the La Loma Motel. 432 837-9567, 432 294-1625

Many other motels are available for those that want something else. Here
is the list of Motels.

http://www.alpinetexas.com/lodging.html

Banquet: "There ain't no stinkin' formal banquet".  BUT,, I'm making arrangements for the Steak House on that Saturday night so we can all get together to eat, drink?, swap lies and visit.  (I'll need a list of who wants to meet us there so I can arrange enough seating).

*NOTE: March is Spring Break Time. Once you make the decision to go, "Immediately" make your reservations. The rooms that I've reserved will only be held until January 31st.  If you wait, rooms CAN be "very" hard to find.*

Drop me a note if you plan to go, and let me know how many will be eating Steak with us!

Ride safe, Ted

Tax Relief Ride !!!

Date: April 17 - 20, 2008

Location: The Ozark Inn, Ozark, AR

All Wrung Out From Tax Season? Let's Ride the Ozarks!

There's nothing prettier, no better weather, than spring in Arkansas! Mid-April is the height of spring, and for those of us who have agonized over the tax deadline of April 15th, or who have already gotten a refund and blown it, or even for those of us to whom it doesn't much matter, the weekend after is a good time to unwind. No matter where you live, a run into the Arkansas hills is just the thing to help shake off the winter doldrums and get your riding mode dialed in.

Ozark, Arkansas http://www.ozarkarkansas.com/ is sandwiched between the natural Arkansas River and the man-made river of machines that is I-40. It's halfway between Fort Smith and Clarksville. Arkansas Highway 23, the famous Pig Trail http://www.ozarkmotel.com/the-pig-trail-ozark-ar.php runs right through it. Situated at the junction of US 64 (aka Commercial Street, the main drag through Ozark) and AR 23 is the Ozark Inn. This is where Concours riders from all over will begin to gather on Thursday evening, April 17th, for two or three days of swooping and leaning over the convoluted roads of central and north Arkansas.

We have 10 rooms reserved at the Ozark Inn.

There are plenty more rooms (30 in all) available if needed, but we need to hurry!

The Drop Dead Date for a guaranteed room is March 30th!

The 10 rooms we have blocked are all 1 King Bed rooms and are priced at $45.00 per night for one or two people

(plus the usual taxes, of course).

The other rooms are of various configuration - 2 Queens, etc. - and will be priced about the same.

Contact them at::

Ozark Inn & Restaurant
1711 West Commercial St. (Hwy. 23 and 64 Junction)
Ozark, Arkansas 72949
Phone: (479) 667-1500
email: olmsteadrf@aim.com

Be sure to mention COG - or Tax Relief Ride - when calling.

There's a great little country-cookin' restaurant on the premises for breakfast (and dinner, if you want), and several other good eatin' places nearby. Fashionable Adult Beverages are sold just down the street. The proprietors of the Inn are very motorcycle friendly and are prepared to make our stay pleasant and comfortable. Not that we'll spend a lot of time there - most of the daylight hours will be spent out on the road!

Ozark is a great jumping-off place for a number of great rides. Most of us will probably opt for a run up the Pig Trail, followed with jaunts up near the Missouri border with lunch in a place with either great food or a great view, or both. If our legs are long enough we may go far enough east to follow the ground track of one of the recent tornadoes.

Others may wish to tour the high points of the Natural State. Mount Magazine is a mere 34 miles from Ozark, Mount Nebo only 40 more, and another 16 miles will put you on top of Petite Jean. Lots of twisties in between, great views from the summits. If any of you bring non-riders with you who have their own wheels, they may want to make this little drive while we're out scraping pegs. Tell 'em to be sure and bring a good camera!

Yes, it's going to be a fun weekend in Arkansas! I plan to arrive in Ozark Thursday evening around sundown. I'm going to do the Mount tour on Friday, maybe saunter down Hot Springs way. I'll be back in Ozark in late afternoon to welcome all the Friday arrivals and renew some old acquaintances and hopefully make some new friends.

Y'ALL COME!

Destination: Southern Heritage Forest Museum in Long Leaf, LA

http://www.forestheritagemuseum.org/sfhm.htm

Departure Point: McDonald's restaurant at 150 Lobdell Highway in Port Allen, LA.

The restaurant is one block north of I-10 on Hwy 415.

Departure Time: 9:30 AM:
