Ride the Divide, July 21-24, 1996

This year will mark the third running of this rally, in which we ride over all the paved passes which cross the Continental Divide within the state of Colorado. The route consists of 20 passes (14 of which are divide crossings) in a little over 1200 miles, in four days. This year, we're doing the route in the northerly direction starting in Pagosa Springs, and ending in Steamboat, where I hope you'll join us at the Heavenly Daze Pub and Brewery. We have no official headquarters for each night of this rolling rally, but we do have a designated end point for each evening, and a designated starting point for the begining of the new day. Beyond that, we encourage riders to break up into smaller groups and follow the route directions, breaking and regrouping throughout each day, getting to know every one in the group.

This rally originated as a Concours Owners Group regional rally, for the SW Area, but has always been open to all comers and types of motorcycles, regardless of size, type, make or model. Being as this is still a COG organized rally, there is a plethora of Connies in attendence, but we have had everything from the CB-1 to the mega cylinder KZ-1300's and from a Magna cruiser, to the posh Voyager touring rig. Be advised that this has turned into something of a hard riders tour, there's never any pressure to drag the pegs and keep up with anyone, but do not expect a bunch of tourists tooling down the road...

Through the combined efforts of myself, Mark Folsom the COG AAD, SW region, and Jeffery 'Nick Ninja' Hoskin, who many of you remember as the black blur that looked like it could of been a ZX-11, have put together a substantial package detailing the history and color of the regions we'll be travelling through. We've even included some performance riding articles origionally written by Nick Ienatch from Motorcyclist and Sport Rider magazines. We encourage you to get this package and read through it to get the most from this years rally. As an inducement, a little bit about the area around Lake City, Colorado, can be read here.

We have set a modest fee of three (3) dollars per bike, for registering for this rally, which includes a map of the route, with mileage and suggested lodging and dining establishments, as well as a copy of our Colorado history report. Now when was the last time you rode for 1200 miles for a registration fee of three bucks?

We are also producing a T-shirt to commerate this ride, a first for a local COG rally! If you wish to buy one of these limited editions, I'm asking for advance payment of fifteen dollars, and as a bonus, I'll throw in the registration and information packet as part of the deal. I'll send off the information packet as soon as your check arrives, and bring all the T-shirts to Pagosa Springs, the starting point for this years running of the Ride the Divide.

I won't say that space is limited on this rally, but you may get aced out of the best places to stay if you don't get your info packet soon! If you have any questions, or already know what an excellent ride this is and want to register, let me know, here's the details:
