Connecticut Lighthouse Run

(Oct 30, 2005) - What a nice day in Connecticut. After the past few
weeks of non-stop heavy rain, blue skies and sunshine
were more than welcome. What a perfect day for the
Lighthouse Run!

The ride attracted a good number of folks and I know I
did not get everyone's name. At one point - we totaled
17 bikes. That is not a typo. Seventeen!!!

Rockin' in CT today were Danita and Wes Schulz, Craig
and Lee Rabin, Bob Wallace, Bret Bergquist, Karl
Schenkel, Norm Walton, Big Dave (?), Sherman Baumann,
Len Mirizzi, Rob Lancer, Dave and Harriett Muir, Gary
Thorstenson, Sebastian Puglisi, Jim Keane and a friend
of his.

Moving right along... the first lighthouse we stopped
at was the New Haven Harbor Light. Off shore in the
distance is the South Ledge Light so the stop was a
two-fer-one-stop. I was having GPS to Inner Cranium
Woes so we took a round about way of getting there.
Luckily, Norm Walton knows the CT shorline area quite
well and rescued my arse - and the ride too. (Thank
you, Norm)!

The group then met at the Old Saybrook Lighthouse
which is on private land. We weren't able to get too
close - but thanks to Norm's knowledge of the area we
got much closer than my original route would have
placed us. We also got to see the famed Lighthouse
that graces the "Long Island Sound" specialty license
plates in CT.

After a bite to eat, we headed toward Avery Point. The
Avery Point lighthouse is located on the Campus of
UCONN and is currently being restored. From the UCONN
campus, the New London Light is clearly visible, Ledge
Light and several others can be viewed in the far,
distant waters and land masses.

The day was perfect (despite my attempts at
pseudo-navigation). Thank you to all who participated
and made the day fantabulous!

Pictures of the day's activites can be viewed by clciking here or at
at http://photos.yahoo.com/joncoler.The album is
titled: "Lighthouse Run"

Best wishes and safe riding to all,

Jonathan Coler
CT AAD

PS - As I receive pictures from others, I will
continuously add to the album.
