The Route:
The route will generally consist
of riding through a maze of back country roads through the rolling farmland
of Missouri, near the Mississippi River. I find this hilly, rural terrain
near the river to make for a very pleasing motorcycle ride.
The pavement is generally excellent and traffic is
virtually non-existent. The sporting quality of the roads ranges from a few
stretches of boring straight stuff to all out, laughing-in-your-helmet
twisties. Again, once we have started, there are numerous opportunities for
short cuts to shorten the ride (or maybe even prolong it) depending on how
we feel.
The direction of the ride will generally be south from Quincy. At the present time I am planning on stopping for lunch in the town of Troy, MO. The ride route will actually extend south of Troy, but from Troy on home, the route will be north, back to Quincy (I say this for those of you in the St. Louis area who would like to join us at lunch).
The Execution:
Because of the potential distance of the ride I would like to get
rolling as early on Saturday as possible, no later than 8AM. The ride will start from
the parking lot of the Holiday Inn in Quincy, located near the river
at the corner of South Third Street and York Street (5 blocks south of
Broadway. Broadway is the main east-west thoroughfare in Quincy). I will be
there at 7AM with maps to hand out.
For Sunday, a loop of about 100 mi. exploring the back country north and west from Quincy is planned. Well, I hope to see a few of ya'll in June!
The Dinner:
Once we get back to Quincy on Saturday afternoon, I'm planning a barbecue dinner in
my backyard, weather permitting. I've got a nice swimming pool that would help ease away the miles, and
all the Concours parked out
front would give the neighbors something to gossip about. So, the more the
merrier!
There are several hotels/motels in the Quincy area for those of you who will need to spend a night (or two) in town. They range in price from about $40 to $70. If you even think you might try to make the trip here, I would suggest making a reservation soon. Believe it or not, the accomodations here do sell out on a regular basis - hey, everybody wants to be in lovely Quincy, IL!
