The Pace, Part 1 |
The Pace, introduction by Mark Folsom,
former Concours Owners Group AAD for Colorado and Utah.
Written in 1996 as a handout for Ride the Divide.
The next few pages contain a couple of articles about a performance street riding technique called "The Pace". These articles were written by Nick Ienatsch, and were subsequently shamelessly plagiarized from the original magazine publications and the Internet. This technique essentially allows a small group of riders to maximize fun while minimizing risk and undue attention. As I read these articles for the first time, it occurred to me that this is basically how all of the more competent and experienced riders that I know prefer to ride. I won't suggest that every one who participates in the Ride the Divide tour should embrace this riding philosophy, but it does make good sense, and it does work. I've added a few of my own thoughts with regards to the notions presented in these articles, as applied to the experiences from the previous two runnings of the Ride the Divide - that part appears after Nick's articles. Without further ado ....
