This is a picture of Motor and me in October 1998, atop Magazine Mountain in northwest Arkansas. A young high school teacher from the town at the foot of this moutain was up here looking at the graffiti with his wife. We talked them into taking this photo.
There's a couple of things you need to know before you spend much time in these pages. First, a little blurb about how these and a few other pages wouldn't have come about without Rick Hall. Second, although the better half of our 30+ year marriage signs her name "Pam," we all know her real name is "Motor." She has some nice names for me too, but I'll leave those.
Now how about Rick? Check out the URLs for this site and you'll see they are all maintained at "concours.org." That's Rick's domain and he offered up this space. How could I refuse? Something else that is not as easily noticed is that a few years back, Rick helped me develop my first homepage; he coaxed me through my first fights with HTML until I hammered out (to use his phrase) a page about our 1993 tour of the American northwest. Face it, the guy was hard up for "Connie" touring pages. A year or so later, I started monkeying around with HTML for another subject (http://www.cv18.com) and used up all my available space at the local commercial server. My ISP, qni.com, became a little belligerent about using too much space, so down came the '93 tour page to make room for other "stuff." Rick offered some concours.org space. Now qni.com is out of business and the '93 tour page is here on the Concours website. Thanks Rick!
I've put two motorcycle tours on this website for you to view; both are in the west. We too get sick of hearing about how great the riding is in the west. But then, we never get sick of riding it. There must be something to Jim Morrison singing ". . . the west is the best." There's a third page to show we've ridden in some other interesting territories (48 and 5). I put it together because for many years we couldn't get past the back porch. Then one day we jumped on the ZG to find the horizon. We haven't found it yet, but we packed a lot of miles into the hunt.
Don't fret, there's hope for you too.
First up is our 1993 Trip Through the Great American Northwest. The trip starts near Kansas City and we go all the way up to Vancouver Island in British Columbia before returning home. This was my first attempt at a homepage. In many ways, it remains my best effort. There are three installments and an opening page about this trip.
Next is a 1998 Trip Through the Great American West. Motor let go of the leash for a few days, so I took 11 days to visit our offspring and ride 6,000 miles. There's a "Bun Burner" in there somewhere. I went almost to the Canadian border in Montana before heading down the coast from Oregon until I nearly ran into Mexico. Then, I cut right through the middle of the USA to get back to Motor. This series includes eight installments and one opening page.
Finally, there is a collection of photos from other rides we took with our motorcycles over the years and real brief descriptions of some of our rides. You might find a farewell to motorcycles in there too ...
