A bit about
the power station
The Bath County Pump Storage power station is a peak electric generating
station that was, at the time it came on line in December 1985,
the largest facility of it's kind in the country. It consists of
two reservoirs, a powerhouse containing six turbine generators and
other related facilities needed for generating and transporting
energy. Each of the six Allis - Chalmers pump turbines have a maximum
pumping power of 563,400 HP (the new Concours14 has about 175 HP
at the crank), and combined can provide more than 2,100,000 kw of
peak generating capacity. Additional information about the station
can be found at the following web site:

A bit about
the route
As impressive as the station is, what'll impress you even more are
the roads and the scenery to and from. We'll pass through some of
the most scenic areas offered up by the great states of Virginia
and West Virginia, all the while traversing some wonderful, little
traveled roads.

Either route
will provide a pretty full day of riding. We'll only average 45-50
mph on many of these roads. Bring a rain suit. This time of year,
we're subject to afternoon thunderstorms. Watch for the critters.
They be everywhere.
